When disaster hits, how do you respond?

I’m focusing on the word “convinced” today. We have probably all been advised at some point or the other to see the positives in life and to learn lessons from our challenges but how often are we actually convinced that something good will come from it? When I’m going through a tough time my primary focus is on surviving, on not being overcome emotionally, on coping with the mental demands of the situation. I may be hoping for a good outcome, I may believe that I will learn and grow from the challenge and any suffering I endure, but at the time l am not ”firmly convinced” that it will turn out for the best in the end, I’m hoping.

Herein lies the difference, and it’s a mindset that today I have finally understood. It’s not about the outcome, it’s about you. You can be firmly convinced all will turn out for the best if you know that – whatever happens – you have the drive, the confidence, the self-security and the resilience to get up off the floor and bounce back. It’s not about hoping you can cobble together something out of what life deals you, it’s about being the type of person who has the character, qualities and skills not just to survive but to thrive.

You don’t have to “make it through”. You don’t have to “make the best of it”. You make it work, no matter what. Stuff happens around you, not to you. You remain the same person, whatever the circumstances. You have the power over your life, you are firmly confident in the outcome because you are firmly confident in yourself.

Be firmly convinced that it will all work out for the best – because you will MAKE it so.

The secret ingredient is you.
